Australia’s batsmen have failed miserably in their attempt to deal with India’s spin bowling duo Ravindra Jadeja And Ravichandran Ashwin, Jadeja and Ashwin have taken 31 of Australia’s 40 wickets in the Border Gavaskar Trophy so far. On the other hand, Australian spinner- Nathan Lyon, Todd Murphy and Matt Kuhnman — haven’t been able to produce the same effect. Former Australia captain Ian Chappell has pointed out how opposition spinners often try to replicate the skills of Ashwin and Jadeja, but have not found the same success.
“Often they (opposition spinners) try and replicate the skills (of Ashwin and Jadeja). Talking about Ashwin and Jadeja…they know what to do in India. He bowls. I have seen him bowl in Australia, he bowled very well. He is also very smart. He does exactly what he has to do. Jadeja doesn’t differ much, though he has learned a few things and improved in his performances. Bowling but he has got the skillset which is perfect for India and these two work well together.” Chappell said on ESPNcricinfo.
Chappell believes that Lyon should not try to bowl like Ashwin and instead try to find success in his own way.
“In this game, I thought Ashwin bowled well, but Jadeja took seven wickets, but that’s what happens on some days. I don’t think you can come and copy what they do. Nathan Lyon R Ashwin No, they’ve got it.” Nathan bowls like Lyon and he has tried to do that.”
